Double Check Your ‘Flushable’ Toilet Wipes

You might be surprised to know that many flushable toilet wipes aren’t actually safe to flush. The regulations for these products simply don’t exist, so quite often the term ‘flushable’ is a marketing tactic. Anything that’s made of synthetic material should not be flushed down the toilet. If you’re in any doubt, put the wipe in the bin. It’s far easier to dispose of that than it is to pull large clumps of clogged up wipes out of your drain!

Think Twice Before Using Drain Cleaning Chemicals

If you’ve got a blocked drain, it might seem like a good idea to pour a cleaning chemical in and hope for the best. For a one-off blockage, this could do the job nicely. However, if the blockage is reoccurring you shouldn’t be trying to fix it with chemicals. Most drain cleaners use a chemical reaction to break down the blockage. This reaction creates heat, which can cause damage to your pipes. Repeated exposure to this chemical reaction could warp or crack your plumbing. As well as this, if the product builds up behind the blockage, your plumber could be unnecessarily exposed to a backlog of harmful chemical fumes.

If you’re confident installing your new washing machine or fixing a leaky tap, by all means go ahead. However, if you’re not sure how to carry out a task safely and correctly, turn to a professional.
